What Types of Aluminum Alloy Refining Fluxes Are There?

Resources

1. Classification of aluminum alloy refining flux

In aluminum and aluminum alloy melts, substances that can remove gas and solid non-metallic inclusions from the melt through physical, chemical or physical-chemical interactions are called refining agents.

Aluminum alloy refining fluxes are classified according to their physical states: commonly used aluminum alloy refining fluxes include gas refining agents, liquid refining agents and solid refining agents.

2. Types of gas aluminum alloy refining flux

There are two types of gaseous aluminum alloy refining fluxes: inert gas and active gas. Inert gases refer to those gases that do not chemically react with aluminum melt within the normal melting temperature range, and have minimal solubility in the melt, such as nitrogen and argon.

Active gases refer to those gases that can chemically react with the melt within the normal melting temperature range, but do not cause pollution to the aluminum melt, such as chlorine and freon.

In the actual use of gaseous aluminum alloy refining fluxes, in addition to the above gases, there are also their mixed gases, such as chlorine-nitrogen, argon-chlorine, argon-freon and so on. Liquid refining agents for aluminum alloys are mainly chloride salts that are liquid at high temperatures, such as carbon tetrachloride and titanium tetrachloride.
